[GalleryJJ] Cable Ceramics & Sounds II 전시 2020.11.13 - 12.26

국내 갤러리에서는 처음 선보이는 작가 김영섭의 사운드아트 설치가 강남구 논현로 745에 소재한 갤러리JJ에서 11월 13일 오프닝 이벤트를 시작으로 12월 26일 연말까지 전시를 한다. 독일에서 Audiovisual Art (소리시각예술)를 전공하며 1세대 사운드 아티스트인 크리스티나 쿠비쉬에 지도하에 이미지와 음악, 소음을 통해 시간과 공간, 재료들의 종합적 상호관계에 지속적으로 관심을 보여왔고 한다. 작가가 선보이는 조작된 사운드 환경, 공간 속 에선 수 많은 소리, 소음, 물건, 제품 등에 둘러싸여 다소 둔감해진 우리의 감각과 인지능력들을 깨워내는 듯한 느낌을 준다.

갤러리JJ는 소리를 시각화하는 사운드설치(Sound Installation) 작업으로 잘 알려진 김영섭의 개인전을 마련하였다. 지금껏 김영섭 작가가 갤러리가 아닌 미술관에서 수많은 전시를 해온 소위 미술관급 작가인 점을 감안하거나, 갤러리JJ 공간에서의 첫 사운드 관련 전시라는 면에서도 이번 <케이블도자기 그리고 소리 Ⅱ> 전시는 새롭다. ‘케이블도자기 그리고 소리’ 작업은 과거 2006년 독일을 시작으로 파리와 빈, 룩셈부르크, 토론토 그리고 2007년 서울에서 한차례씩 소개된 바 있다. 이번 전시는 기존 작업과 비교해 보았을 때 최신 전자 장비로 녹음된 사운드가 더 첨가되었고, 시각적으로도 특히 다양하고 풍부해진 색감과 형태들이 불러일으키는 인공적 매끄러움이 눈길을 끈다...

GalleryJJ is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Youngsup Kim, well-known for his installation that visualizes sound. This exhibition, Cable Ceramics and Sounds II, is a new venture for us in terms of it being the first sound installation at GalleryJJ, and considering Kim is a so-called museum-level artist who has only exhibited in museums thus far. Cable Ceramics and Sound series were introduced in 2006 in Germany, Paris, Vienna, Luxembourg, and Toronto, and in 2007 in Seoul. Compared to his previous work, this exhibition has more layers of sounds recorded by the latest equipment, and visually, the artificial smoothness evoked by objets’ rich colors and various shapes attracts our attention...

반가운 얼굴. 전기원 Ing-er 소장님. 2017년 서울도시건축비엔날레 준비로 4년전 서울대와 유펜의 조인트 스튜디오로 만났었다. Kiwon Jeon (Principal architect at Ing-er, Korea. we met through SNU and UPenn joint studio for Seoul Architecture Biennial 2017 preparation)

반가운 얼굴. 윤주연 적정건축 소장님. 네덜란드에 소재한 세계적 건축회사 UNStudio에서 일할 때 만났던 소중한 인연이다. Jooyoun Yoon, principal architect of OfAA (Office of Appropriate Architecture). We met at UNStudio, Amsterdam, back in 2014.
